ATHLETICS

No Highland Games could be complete without the caber toss, probably the definitive athletic event at any Celtic contest. The caber toss isn't about distance — it's a technique event where the object is first to establish balance and control, and then to launch the lumber so that it makes a half-revolution and lands as close to perfectly straight as possible. All this without losing one's kilt!

If brute strength is more your style, try the stone throw. In this event you'll first have to pick up the massive (50-pound) stone, lug it to the throwing line, and launch it into space. Kind of like the shot-putt for REAL men. Longest throw wins (bonus points for best hernia). Try not to drop it on your toe.
