I've been building websites since 1994, back before there were decent WYSIWYG editing programs. Back then, we had to actually learn to write HTML code. I'm not a programmer, however, and it was torture to work that way. Good training, though. One of the things I like about designing for the Web is that information is not presented linearly, as it is in print. The reader/viewer chooses how they want to navigate through the information. That means one of the designer's challenges is to make it easy, intuitive, and logical to navigate around the site. I think the sites I've designed are not only visually attractive, but also easy to use. For years, I used Symantec's "Visual Page" to design websites. Lately, I'm using Macromedia's "Dreamweaver" and "Fireworks". |
